Criollos in others parts of the world
Chagras from Ecuador
When talking about the criollo horse and where it comes from, most of us would think first about the beautifull and vast landscape of Agentina, Chile, Uruguay or Brazil....It is true that those countries are the countries with the highest number of Criollos, where the breed is the most organized and selective, with official registries and well defined standards ......but the criollo horse has originaly populated most of the american countries and has been used by the local populations since centuries. If you want to improve your "criollo culture" you can visit a beautifull website dedicated to the criollo horse in Ecuador and to the Chagras, i.e. the Equadorian cowboy. Chagras from Ecuador and their traditions deserves to be better known as long as they do the same work as the gaucho or the huaso, but inside.... the very high Adean plateau. The author a the following website, Fabian Corral, will share with you all his knowledges and his passion for his country and the ecuadorian local cowboy, their criollos, through beatifull texts and pictures (in Spanish only):
